Frequently asked questions

What's in the kit?

An adjustable waist belt, a zip pouch (about 10 × 17 cm) that slides on and off the belt, and a bungee lead with two grab handles and a metal clip. The pouch has room for your phone, keys and poo bags.

How long does delivery take?

Shipping is free anywhere in Australia. Please allow 7–14 business days for delivery; regional and remote areas can take a little longer. So far, most orders have arrived within about 2 weeks. We'll email you tracking details once your order is on its way.

What if it doesn't suit me or my dog?

You can return it within 30 days of delivery. For a change of mind, it needs to be unused and in its original packaging, and you cover the return postage. If it arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, we'll replace or refund it and cover the return postage. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law aren't affected. See our Returns & Refunds policy for details.

Will it work with my dog's harness?

The metal clip attaches to any standard collar or harness ring.

Does it fit over a jacket?

The belt is adjustable and fits over clothing, including a winter jacket.

How far does the leash stretch?

The lead is about 130 cm at rest and stretches to about 193 cm, giving your dog room to move without you needing to let go of anything.

How is a bungee leash different from a normal one?

The bungee section stretches, so when your dog stops suddenly or lunges, it gives a little and helps soften the tug instead of a sharp jerk.

Can I use it while pushing a pram?

Yes — both hands stay free for the pram while your dog walks beside you. Keep your dog close, and take hold of one of the two grab handles at crossings or when passing other dogs. If your dog pulls hard or lunges, we wouldn't use it with a pram.

Can I walk two dogs at once?

The kit comes with one lead and is designed for walking one dog. Walking two would need a second lead, and you'd want to be confident handling both.

Is it good for night walks?

The belt and leash have reflective stitching to help drivers and cyclists see you. We'd still recommend a light or reflective vest if you regularly walk in the dark.

Can I still see what my dog is doing?

Yes. Most people walk with their dog slightly ahead or beside them, so they stay in view the whole time. The leash runs from your waist forward rather than behind you. When you want them closer — crossing a road, passing another dog — take hold of one of the two grab handles on the lead.

Will it help with my sore shoulder or wrist?

Many people use a waist leash for exactly this reason, because the load moves off the arm. We can't make medical claims — if you have an existing injury, check with your physio or GP first.

Can I run with my dog attached to me?

You can use it for light jogging. The bungee section gives a little as your pace changes. Start with short, easy runs while you and your dog get used to the feel of it.

What if my dog pulls hard?

Freepaw is made for everyday walks, not training, so it won't stop a dog from pulling. What it does is move the pull from your wrist to your waist, and the bungee section softens sudden tugs. If your dog pulls hard, keep a hand on one of the two grab handles — that's what they're there for. If your dog needs training first, sort that out before going hands-free.
